6 Things You Need to Know Before Replacing Your Damaged Windshield

Replacing a Windshield

Finding a scratch or a crack on the windshield is the last thing anyone wants to see on their vehicle. If you have a damaged windshield, the first thing you have to do is replace or repair it quickly. Before taking help from an expert, there are certain things you need to keep in mind to ensure the process goes smoothly. They are as follows…

1. Insurance Coverage

It’s essential to properly study and understand your insurance wording before taking the car to an expert. This will help you to understand how much money you have to pay out of your pocket.

In the case of having a small crack and chip in the windshield, do not use the insurance money for paying the expenses because in such a situation you will lose your no claim bonus.

If you have purchased car from a used car dealership then negotiate with the dealer. These dealerships also provide windshield replacement services at affordable rates to their clients.

2. Type of Glass

There is a variety of glass types available on the market. Before installing any type of glass make sure to contact the auto manufacturer to make sure your new windshield will match the original.

Using local non-specific glass creates problems while driving and you can face the problem of bad surface control while driving. Local glasses are weaker and their manufacturing process doesn’t follow compliance laws and standards. Always use the original windshield as it is a matter of safety.

3. Ask Questions to Experts

Always choose an auto manufacturer who has been dealing with windshields for several years. Take referrals from your friends and family and then shortlist the manufacturers whom you can trust. A damaged windshield can get worse over time, so don’t ignore this!

Several companies are managing their business online, so read their customer reviews and ask the question to them about their technical certificates. You can also contact about the sources from where the glasses come from. If you have a car loan then you can ask your broker to give them reference of experts.

Most often a good referral will lead to a good discount at your windshield replacement.

4. Time Required for New Windshield Installation

Windshield repairs don’t typically require a long time to complete, so you will usually have your vehicle back within the same day.

Depending on the damage level it may take only a few hours or a day. The shop expert will usually advise you on certain guidelines that you have to follow like keeping the windshield away from direct sunlight and water, don’t wash the car for one day or more, etc.

You need to follow all these guidelines, so keep that in mind and be prepared before replacing your windshield.

5. Winshield Repair or Replacement?

Windshield replacement is a difficult and complex task and when your windshield gets cracked or chipped, you need to ask the experts whether the damages caused requires repairing or replacement. Even ask them some questions like which path is suitable for your model of car. This may prevent future occurrence of damages.

6. Workmanship Warranty

Everyone wants to have a lifetime warranty as long as they have their vehicles. This offers quality workmanship and peace of mind to the owner. So before approaching an expert, the first thing you should do is review the company, its warranties, and product. This will ensure your windshield gets replaced or repaired properly without any issues.

Sometimes, a damaged windshield can be repaired without having to completely replace the glass. In cases like that, the repairs will be made quickly, often under 30 minutes.
